UX Design Project

Healthcare App Redesign

Project Overview

Role

UX Researcher & Designer

Duration

2 Months

Scope

Researching, Designing, Prototyping

Who’s the Client?

Altoida is a healthcare software company that provides a cognitive assessment for patients to test themselves for early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. This project aimed to create an assessment experience that was clear to understand and allowed for more user freedom.

What’s the Problem?

Altoida needs an assessment that patients will complete without leaving mid-way. Customers are often frustrated by confusing instructions and don’t understand why they need to complete the tutorial. While a basic version of the assessment has been built out, the experience is often difficult to navigate.

Meeting The Users

User Personas

-Our client was nice enough to provide their persona based on previous research

Pre-Existing Research

Usability Tests

-The client’s previous research showed them that users were having trouble navigating the AR portion of the tutorial and needed more guidance

-People were struggling with Altoida’s cognitive test exercises, confused about how to place objects in AR and frustrated by the lack of clear instructions when it came to accomplishing motor skill and vision skill tasks

Competitive Analysis

-Analyzing similar products helped with finding inspiration and understanding the type of UI users might already be familiar with

Duolingo

-Tells users when they do something correctly by congratulating them with text and positive images

-Includes progress bar to show how much of the exercise they have left

Augment

-Users are instructed to explore their environment to introduce the concept of surface detection

-Placement indicator is clear and uses light gradient to show where the object will appear

Improving the Flow

Proposed User Flow

Giving Users More Freedom

-Providing ways for users to continue when they feel frustrated could help make the tutorial less confusing

-Guiding first-time users to complete the tutorial could help them complete it

Wireframing

Changes Implimented

-Guidance with placing items in AR

-Making the experience more interactive

-Allowing more freedom and navigation

-Engaging the user with conversational language

-Adding a checklist for the user to see their progress in the tutorial

Final Prototype
